Longitudinal Experiences

Patient Care

As a resident, you will be expected to dedicate 24 hours of each week to the experience. The main focus of the patient care services will revolve around the enhancement of evidence-based MTM services and immunization services for the pharmacy. You will also be involved in the development of a medication adherence/medication synchronization and geriatric pharmacotherapy consult program. In addition, it is expected that you will develop relationships with the onsite providers to design and develop proper policy and procedures to enhance the current interprofessional infrastructure at Hannaford Pharmacy and Martin’s Point Health Care, to optimize patient care.

Management and Leadership

You will spend 4 hours weekly working with clinical pharmacy personnel on the design and development of a new pharmacy service, to be conducted as part of the learning experience. You will also work with clinical pharmacists within the department of pharmacy at Martin’s Point Health Care to aide in decision-making efforts for the Generation’s Advantage Plan utilizing evidence-based information. Additionally, you will work with the pharmacy manager to gain leadership experience within a health care system.

Residency Project

It is anticipated that you will spend 4 hours weekly in the design, implementation, and analysis of their residency project. You will be responsible for the completion of all research training required by both the university and practice sites, study design, data analysis, presentation, and manuscript.

Staffing

Staffing will take place within a Hannaford Pharmacy or the outpatient pharmacy at Martin’s Point Health Care. You will be expected to dedicate 4 hours weekly to prescription order processing, participation in telephonic interventions, and follow-up and patient counseling. 

Concentrated Experiences

Didactic Teaching

Teaching obligations at the School of Pharmacy will consist of a concentrated or longitudinal experience in consultation with the resident. You will be responsible for all appropriate obligations — including but not limited to — design and development of didactic lectures and laboratory activities, as well as student evaluation and grading.

Experiential Teaching

Oversight of introductory pharmacy practice experience (IPPE) students as well as advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE) students, under the direct supervision of a preceptor will make up one concentration experience.

Academic Leadership and Management (Elective)

You will be given the opportunity to work with the dean of the School of Pharmacy in a concentrated elective in academic leadership and management. You will be exposed to the increasing role that the School of Pharmacy plays in the development of community partnerships, in an effort to raise awareness of current issues and to promote and enhance community pharmacy practice.

Interprofessional Education (Elective)

During your pharmacy residency, you will have the opportunity to work with many of the ongoing interdisciplinary projects being conducted at the University of New England. One such project, the Interdisciplinary Geriatric Educations Program (IGEP), is a partnership between the School of Pharmacy and Physician Assistant (PA) Program within É«ÏãÊÓƵ’s Westbrook College of Health Professions.

Pharmacogenomics (Elective)

You will have the opportunity to participate in a week-long pharmacogenomics training course and subsequently participate in a project revolving around pharmacogenomics and its role within community pharmacy practice.

Public Health (Elective)

You will have the opportunity to participate in an elective experience in partnership with the É«ÏãÊÓƵ Center for Community and Public Health (CCPH).
