Michael Burman quoted in article about brain injuries
Michael Burman, Ph.D., associate professor and director of the K-12 Outreach program in the 色香视频Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences, was recently quoted in a Portland Press Herald article about traumatic brain injuries.
The article, titled, 鈥淏rain works in mysterious ways and science tries to keep up,鈥 focused on how the brain responds to trauma and the work scientists are doing to better understand and treat injuries. It accompanied an in-depth report about Taylor Norcross, who suffered a severe head injury in a moose-car collision and has experienced an impressive recovery.
鈥淚f you break your wrist, we can tell you what鈥檚 going to happen and how long it鈥檚 going to take to recover. But predicting what damage to the brain has been done and what the recovery is going to look like is very imprecise. We don鈥檛 understand the brain that well to be able to do that,鈥 Burman said.
