College of Dental Medicine’s new admissions process featured in American Dental Education Association’s news bulletin
The latest Bulletin of Dental Education published by the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) featured an article about the University of New England’s College of Dental Medicine (CDM), reporting that CDM implemented the multiple mini interview (MMI) format during the fall 2015 admissions process.
The article describes the MMI format as “an innovative method to evaluate prospective students using a series of six short, structured interview stations.” The new format, it says, “allows prospective students to experience the ɫƵ-CDM’s interprofessional approach,” as ɫƵ’s osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nurse anesthesia, social work, public health, dental hygiene and nursing programs all contributed to the MMI questions.
The article explains that the MMI format assists CDM in identifying students “who exemplify the College’s core values, including social responsibility, professionalism, patient-centered care, leadership, diversity, scholarship and excellence," and its continued use will contribute to the enrollment of students “who are likely to return to the rural, underserved communities of northern New England to practice after graduation.”
