Anouar Majid featured on WCSH’s ‘207’ as expert on Middle East
On September 5, 2015, Anouar Majid, Ph.D., vice president for Global Affairs and director of the Center for Global Humanities, was featured on the WCSH program “207.”
Majid offered his thoughts on causes of the strife in the Middle East, noting that the region’s economic development and public health infrastructure are lagging behind and that aspects of the culture and religion of the Middle East exacerbate the problems associated with accepting the modern world. “One of the major drivers of the situation… is people coming into the modern world a little bit slowly and painfully,” he said.
Majid also spoke about ɫƵ’s campus in Morocco and described the determination of the university to “globalize students’ education.” He stated, “We want our students to be rooted in Maine but to get out and discover and explore other parts of the globe.”
