The Global Politics of Gender
Many twentieth-century global projects of development focus on the empowerment of women, on addressing reproductive issues, and on uplift through poverty-reduction and removal of illiteracy. How have these projects fared and how have they changed in the twenty-first century? This lecture will discuss the new contexts of development that have emerged in this century, as so many welfare states are under threat and so many have dramatically increased rates of inequality. What do feminist researchers have to say about these issues, and how has the picture of welfare and gender become dramatically altered in the present.
